Prayer Request for Astig the Dog

The following prayer request was left:
Please pray for astig, she's been with us for over 6 years and she's suffering from pyometra. She's been under medication for more than a week already, but i don't think it's working. It's so hard whenever she cries because i can't do anything to ease up her pain. I'd rather be the one in pain instead of her. According to her vet, astig has to go under surgery which will cost us roughly 9,oooPhp/195 U.S. dollars. Of course we can't afford that, so her vet suggested we put her to sleep instead of prolonging her suffering. I've other 6 dogs but still, astig has been part of our family so... We'll give it a week and see what happens. It's just so sad. I'm praying for a miracle. Please pray too that i make the right decision. Thanks for putting up this site, such a great help to all of us who love our dogs so much.
We ask for the intercession of St. James and Blessed Seelos, patron saints of veterinarians and St. Roch, patron saint of dogs to help Astig and our other seriously ill pets.

Message to Astig's owner: I found the following at this site:
IS THERE AN ALTERNATIVE TO SURGERY?

In the late 1980’s another treatment protocol became available that might be able to spare a valuable animal’s reproductive capacity. Here, special hormones called “prostaglandins” are given as injections to cause the uterus to contract and expel its pus. A week or so of hospitalization is necessary and some cramping discomfort is often experienced. The treatment takes place over the course of a week. This form of treatment is not an option in the event of a “closed” pyometra as described above.

PROS:
* There is a possibility of future pregnancy for the patient (though often there is too much uterine scarring). Surgery can be avoided in a patient with concurrent problems that pose extra anesthetic risk.

CONS:
* Pyometra can recur. The disease is resolved more slowly (over a week or so). There is a possibility of uterine rupture with the contractions. This would cause peritonitis and escalates the life-threatening nature of the disease.

Hi esther, thanks so much for the info, appreciate it. According to her vet, what she has is a "closed" pyometra so the only option would be surgery. She's still under medication. I think somehow it's kinda helping her, but the pain.. It just breaks my heart everytime she cries. I'm glad that there's someone like you from another country whom i can share my sentiment, thanks. I'll try to keep you posted.
